What is the ARRL Field Day?

Each year, on the last weekend of June, the American Radio Relay League (ARRL), the world’s largest and oldest amateur radio organization, hosts its annual Field Day. It is an exercise encouraging emergency communications readiness among amateur radio operators. In the United States, Field Day is the largest single annual emergency preparedness exercise, with over 40,000 operators participating. The use of alternative power sources is encouraged to prepare for those instances when utilities fail. Operations typically last over a twenty-four hour period, testing our capability to respond to an actual emergency.

Field Day 2017 will be held June 24-25, beginning at 11:00 MST Saturday and running continuously for 24 hours through 11:00 AM Sunday.

Who is eligible to participate in the CIARC Field Day Event?

All FCC licensed CIARC members of all license classes can participate. Through the use of a designated Control Operator, Technician Class license club members will be eligible to operate phone, digital and code on all amateur radio bands. Guests who are not club members are welcome to participate in functions other than operating radios. If you want to learn how to operate your own radio or prefer to use your own equipment, we will have room and expertise to accommodate you.

Can I receive training in some of the modes I am interested in working?

Yes. Training will be conducted in the various modes before the event for those who are interested.
